Overview

General Insurance of Cyprus has introduced the Drive Safe mobile app, which aims to improve driving behavior and promote eco-friendly practices. The app records driving behavior and provides drivers with a score at the end of each journey. This allows drivers to identify areas for improvement and make adjustments during their next trip. Additionally, the app offers a discount on insurance policy renewals for drivers who demonstrate safe and responsible driving habits. By encouraging safer driving, General Insurance of Cyprus is contributing to the state's efforts to reduce road traffic accidents.

The Drive Safe app utilizes the sensors and location services of mobile phones to track the beginning and end of each journey and evaluate driving behavior. The app calculates a score for each trip and an overall score for the driver, taking into account factors such as speeding, mobile phone usage while driving, braking, acceleration, and driving during high-risk hours. The app provides drivers with a detailed analysis of their trips, highlighting areas where driving behavior could be improved. It also allows drivers to compare their performance with other drivers and determine if they are eligible for an insurance policy renewal discount.

Drive Safe has been designed to minimize battery consumption, with negligible power usage when not in use and a moderate consumption rate while driving. The app does not require an internet connection to operate, although having Wi-Fi or data enabled can enhance the logging process. General Insurance of Cyprus emphasizes the importance of data privacy and ensures that personal data is securely protected. Only the user has access to personally identifiable data, and the app separates the storage of driving behavior data from personal data to maintain confidentiality. The app operates in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union.
