This application is designed as a sobriety tool for members of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), aiming to be user-friendly and beneficial for every member. It has been updated with highlighting and completely rebuilt to offer enhanced features, functionality, and layout improvements for both phones and tablets. The app boasts a new icon and design, ensuring it is visually appealing and easy to navigate. Key functionalities include a sobriety calculator to track personal and friends' sobriety lengths, access to the Big Book with search tools and various stories, a collection of prayers and promises, and a contacts directory for reaching out to AA support networks. The app also provides routing to contact addresses via the device's GPS and quick access to maps for directions. The application includes several important sections designed to aid individuals in their recovery journey. The sobriety calculator is a central feature, allowing users to view and calculate their sobriety length, as well as that of their friends, providing a sense of accomplishment and motivation. The Big Book section offers access to the main 164 pages, over 60 stories from the 1st and 2nd editions, and original forewords, available in both portrait and landscape layouts with page numbers for easy reference. This ensures users have convenient access to the foundational literature of AA. Additionally, the app includes a collection of prayers, such as morning and night prayers, prayers from the steps, and the Prayer of St. Francis, alongside suggestions on prayer from the Big Book. These resources offer spiritual support and guidance for users seeking solace and strength. Furthermore, the app features an extensive gathering of promises from the Big Book, focusing on experience, strength, hope, and the steps, providing encouragement and reinforcing the positive outcomes of recovery. The contact section is particularly useful, allowing users to reach out to US central offices, areas, districts, and answering services. By mapping the route to a contact address using the device’s GPS and providing quick access to call, email, or visit their website, the app ensures that users can easily connect with the support they need. The app's design prioritizes user experience by offering a collapsible index for easy navigation and the ability to add personal notes with sharing options. The inclusion of more Big Book text and categories expands the app’s content, while the ability to edit and add personal recovery contacts enhances its utility. The app also offers contact support via email and allows users to move the app to an SD card, providing flexibility and convenience. The application's design emphasizes anonymity by using an icon that does not reference AA, ensuring privacy for its users. It also operates without an internet connection, allowing access to its resources at any time and in any location, which is particularly beneficial for those in areas with limited connectivity. The developer expresses gratitude to users for their support and hopes the app serves as a valuable tool in their recovery and that of others, encouraging users to visit their website for comments or concerns. Copyright information clarifies that only stories from the 1st and 2nd editions are included and that the 12 Steps Companion is available only to US customers. It also reminds users to support AA by purchasing a printed copy from their local central office, acknowledging that Big Book and Alcoholics Anonymous are registered trademarks of AA World Services.
The application serves as a comprehensive digital companion for individuals in recovery within Alcoholics Anonymous, providing a wide array of resources and tools to support their journey. The primary feature is the digital version of the Big Book, which includes not only the core text but also numerous personal stories from early editions, offering diverse perspectives and relatable experiences. The search tool within the Big Book allows users to quickly find specific passages or topics, enhancing the utility of this foundational text. The inclusion of various prayers, such as the morning and night prayers, along with prayers from the Twelve Steps and the Prayer of St. Francis, provides spiritual sustenance and a sense of connection to a higher power. These prayers offer comfort and guidance during challenging times, reinforcing the spiritual principles of the program. Promises extracted from the Big Book are another significant component, offering encouragement and hope based on the collective experiences of AA members. These promises, categorized by themes such as experience, strength, and hope, serve as reminders of the positive outcomes of recovery and the potential for personal growth. The sobriety calculator is a practical tool that allows users to track their abstinence from alcohol, providing a visual representation of their progress and serving as a motivational aid. The ability to calculate the sobriety of friends adds a social dimension, fostering mutual support and accountability within the recovery community. The contact directory is a valuable resource for connecting with AA support networks, including central offices, area representatives, and answering services. The integrated mapping feature enables users to locate these contacts easily, while the quick access to phone, email, and website links streamlines communication. The application is designed to be accessible and user-friendly, with features such as a collapsible index, customizable notes, and adjustable text size. The option to move the application to an SD card provides flexibility for users with limited device storage. The fact that the application does not require an internet connection is a major advantage, allowing users to access its resources anytime, anywhere, without relying on network availability. The app’s design prioritizes user privacy by using a generic icon, ensuring that the application’s purpose is not immediately apparent to others. This is particularly important for individuals who wish to maintain their anonymity and avoid unwanted attention. The developer’s commitment to user support is evident through the inclusion of a contact email for addressing comments or concerns. This demonstrates a willingness to listen to user feedback and continuously improve the application based on their needs.
